Special guest opportunity to curate trans joy in July
Hello friends!
Surprise surprise—it's Jin, the creator of ATJ, in between our usual joy missives!
I'm writing to you today to share a very special opportunity:
As spring rapidly rolls into summer, I'm looking for someone to guest edit the July issue of Amplifying Trans Joy, as I'll be traveling for most of the month and unable to tend the newsletter during that time. I can always put things on hiatus that month, but I thought it could be really cool to get another voice/perspective/connection to community in the room!

As the guest editor, you'd have the opportunity to:
- amplify the voices of those in trans communities that you're connected to and aware of
- get visibility on your own work through sharing a link/bio
- uplift trans resources you're excited about
- learn about how a community publication is put together (with skills you can put toward your own projects/resume)
- & most importantly, shape and nourish public discourse about trans joy for our 300 members!
What does guest editing entail, you ask? Here's what's involved:
- Reaching out to folks on social media/in your circles for submissions and features
- Organizing 7-12 submissions about anonymous trans joy
- Communicating with 3-5 artists/creators for features
- Finding and gathering a handful of links to recent articles/resources/upcoming artist calls/anything related to trans joy!
- Writing a brief editorial letter to introduce the newsletter
- Lightly editing the overall content and alt text for image accessibility
I estimate that this process takes about 7-10 hours total, broken up into a few different days to allow for outreach and communications.
Who I'm looking for: Anyone who identifies as trans/gender non-conforming who has capacity and is excited about the idea. You don't have to have experience doing this exact kind of thing, but I'm hoping to connect with a guest editor who has some connections to trans community (online or in-person, ideally both!), a passion for communications, and is open to collaborating with me and those who will be involved in the issue. If it's a fit, this one-time project could also lead to a longer or ongoing collaboration with ATJ!
Working on this newsletter is a passion project that I personally do for free, but to encourage applications, the July ATJ guest editor will be offered a $50 honorarium (or donation to your trans org of choice). You will be provided with guidance and mentorship for putting the issue together, a style guide to help you understand the voice/vibe of the newsletter, and access to me for ongoing questions.
If you're interested in guest editing Amplifying Trans Joy this summer, please reply to this email by June 1st. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who might be interested! I'm excited to hear from you, and happy to answer any questions.
With care,
Jin (he/him)
P.S. Community submissions are still open for the May issue! If you have trans joy or a creative project you'd like to share with our readers, this is a friendly poke to fill out the Contributor Form!
